Learn how Bonfire Ventures works as an AI SaaS investor, what we do after the wire clears, and why seed-stage founders pick us to lead.
Believing in the vision is the baseline. What matters is how we help founders build it.
Because we work closely with AI-native B2B software companies facing many of the same emerging questions, we can bring relevant pattern recognition to the table in real time. We connect founders with peers, operators, and experts who have already worked through similar challenges, from product and pricing to hiring and go-to-market.
Our portfolio is intentionally small, so our team can stay deeply involved and give each founder the time, attention, and support the work requires.
The go-to-market playbook for AI-native companies is still being written: pricing against labor instead of seats, building in public as your primary channel, selling to buyers who can't afford to fall behind instead of feature shoppers, deploying agents instead of professional services, and turning real usage into your best marketing. We help you pressure-test how you package, price, sell, and explain what you're building, against what's working across the portfolio right now.
The difference between a company that reaches Series A and one that stalls often comes down to who you hire between employees 5 and 15. For AI-native companies, that sequencing matters even more. The right next hire might be a founding AE, another engineer, or a first marketing hire who can build, not just manage demand. Every early hire changes the speed, quality, and culture of the company. We help you think through the shape of the team, not just the next hire.
When the product isn’t working, when a co-founder isn’t scaling, when the pricing model needs to change, or when an early hire is wrong, we have those conversations early and directly. Not because we enjoy it, but because avoiding the truth is the most expensive thing a startup can do. We’ve seen these patterns across hundreds of company-building moments, so we know the difference between seed-stage chaos and a real signal. Our job is to help you see it sooner.
Series A doesn’t start when you decide to raise. It starts months earlier. We help you understand what downstream investors will actually care about, which metrics matter, which milestones build conviction, which firms are thesis-aligned, and how to tell the story before you need the capital. We also help you pressure-test the business against the questions your next lead will ask. When the signals say it’s time, we help you build the narrative, sharpen the materials, and get in front of the right leads.

When you partner with Bonfire, you’re plugged into a tight-knit community of founders and operators brought together through peer leadership circles, private Slack channels, and curated events. Because no one should build alone.

Quotes from Our Co-Investors
“Bonfire is exactly who you want at your side when starting a company—low-volume, high-conviction, and high-support.”
“Bonfire is by far our most frequent follow-on investor, with eight deals together (including exits to Google and Microsoft),. They’re our go-to firm for enterprise software because, simply put, they put in the work. In good times and bad, they’re proactive, constructive, and fully engaged in helping founders execute and scale. If given the choice, I would bet that every one of those eight founders would pick Bonfire as their lead investor again without hesitation.”
“Mark is that rare VC who shows up prepared, asks the hard questions, and still makes founders feel like you’re all on the same team. I’d jump at the chance to work with him again.”
“Mark and Dominique are true partners—thoughtful investors who apply deep operational insight to help founders succeed. They’ve been exceptional collaborators and genuinely great to work with.”
“Bonfire has been a trusted partner across multiple investments. They bring a clear understanding of enterprise business models and a willingness to roll up their sleeves. The team operates with integrity, insight, and a strong sense of partnership.”
“We’re always glad to co-invest with Bonfire. Their deep focus and operational expertise consistently help great companies reach their potential. Founders trust them—and so do we.”
“We’ve co-invested with Bonfire on five companies—and I hope it’s 50 someday. They back exceptional founders and show up as real partners, through both the highs and the inevitable lows. They’re not afraid of tough conversations and work shoulder to shoulder with founders to solve real problems.”
“Brett and I sit on a board together, and Bonfire’s reputation as the go-to seed firm for B2B is well-earned. Brett does what he says he’s going to do, pushes founders to grow, and is a great board partner. At Ensemble, we’re always looking for ways to team up with Bonfire.”
“Every founder should have a board member like Brett. He’s prepared, insightful from his operating experience, and never takes himself too seriously.”

If you’re building AI-native B2B software and preparing to raise your seed round, we’d like to meet you. We lead early, invest meaningful capital, and stay closely involved as you build toward Series A and beyond.
Look for investors who can actually help you win, not just fund you. Key criteria:
Start with the compounding advantage. Show how your product gets smarter, more valuable, or harder to replace as customers use it and generate proprietary data. Support that story with real traction, including early revenue, strong retention, and customers who would genuinely miss the product if it disappeared.
Investors will also want to see that your team can ship quickly, understands the buyer, and has a clear point of view on the market. Tie it all together with a focused plan for how the next 18 months of capital will help you reach the milestones that matter most.
A typical seed round has two to five investors. The most important choice is a single clear lead who sets terms and takes responsibility. Too many small checks with no lead can create confusion when it’s time to raise Series A. Keep the cap table clean and pick a lead who will show up when it counts.
